Thanks -- it's actually not done, it will probably take another year or two to complete. And if you're not as ambitious as I am (16-bit CPU, with a 32-operation ALU) then you can probably build it out of Lego.

RE: Your Logical Engine,

Ok, I am ticked that you did this before me, but that's life. However, my concept was a little different... I wanted to make the computer out of Lego blocks, with the eventual goal of seeing how close one could come to creating a self-replicator. Might make for an interesting side-project.

Anyway, nice work and good luck! -Bryan J.L.

Wonderful. I don't have the necessary pieces to build the full adder. But I just built an OR gate using your ideas: https://sites.google.com/site/santiagoontanonvillar/Home/lego-projects/lego-rod-logic

I've cut 1/2" plywood on a Beam Dynamics 500W laser. The interesting thing about the Beam is that the laser beam exits from a nozzle which is also the air nozzle (so air and laser are coaxial). It is possible to turn the air pressure WAY up, so it actually whistles as it comes out. On the Beam, with the pressure up, it is possible to cut all the way through 1/2" Baltic Birch furniture plywood with a nice brown (not charred) edge. Unfortunately, on the Beam, there is no control over frequency so I can't tell you the exact settings, but I'll try to find them regardless.

I agree that the main problem seems to be the absorbent nature of char. Glad to see that confirmed... and even if this doesn't work, it looks f'in beautiful!

Whoops, did more research and answered my own question. I'll be trying to do an X3, though.

Hey,
Sorry for dragging out this old post. What's the specific models of the case and transformer? Also, how custom to the X2 was your kit? I have my eye on a cheap Sherline that I would love to try to adapt it to.
Thanks a ton,
X
